Cookies

This policy explains every cookie this site sets, why, and for how long, in plain terms — it applies to visitors in the UK, Switzerland, and the EU alike, since this site sets the same small, fixed set of cookies for everyone regardless of where they’re browsing from. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal data more broadly.

1What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so it can recognise you (or your browser) on a later visit or as you move between pages. Cookies aren’t the only way a site can store something in your browser — this site also uses a couple of other browser-storage mechanisms (localStorage and sessionStorage), explained in section 4 below, which work similarly but aren’t technically cookies.

2Our approach

We set only the small, fixed set of strictly necessary cookies listed in the table below — the minimum needed to keep you signed in securely, remember a few preferences, and (through Cloudflare, which protects this site) tell visitors from automated bots. We set no advertising or third-party tracking cookies of any kind — no ad networks, no social media widgets, no third-party analytics scripts (e.g. Google Analytics). The only optional element is first-party usage analytics (see section 3), which doesn’t use a cookie at all and is entirely under your control via the consent banner.

3Cookies we set

NameCategoryPurposeDuration
ytp_sessionStrictly necessaryKeeps you signed in between visits.Signs you out after 24 hours without activity (30 days at most)
ytp_acting_asStrictly necessaryRemembers which customer account an agent is currently acting as.30 days
ytp_localeStrictly necessaryRemembers your chosen display language.Until browser is closed
ytp_themeStrictly necessaryRemembers your light/dark display preference.1 year
ytp_fastStrictly necessaryRemembers whether “Need it fast?” (Rapid delivery) is switched on in the shop.Until browser is closed
ytp_fclStrictly necessaryRemembers whether Insights includes full-container (FCL) orders.1 year
ytp_bbStrictly necessaryRemembers whether Insights includes Buy Back (Rapid) orders.1 year
__cf_bmStrictly necessarySet by Cloudflare, which protects this site, to tell visitors from automated bots. It holds no personal details.30 minutes

Because every cookie above is strictly necessary for the site to function (signing you in, keeping an agent’s acting-as-customer session straight, remembering your language, light/dark and delivery or order-list choices, and protecting the site from bots and attacks), none of them require consent under UK PECR, the EU ePrivacy rules, or the Swiss FADP — all three regimes exempt cookies that are indispensable to a service the visitor has actually asked for.

4Not a cookie, but similar: local and session storage

Two more browser-storage items are worth listing here even though neither is a cookie and neither is ever sent to our server automatically the way a cookie is:
  • cookieConsent (localStorage) — stores your choice from the cookie banner (“all” or “necessary”), so we don’t ask again on every visit. Kept until you clear your browser’s site data or change your choice (see section 6).
  • analyticsSessionId (sessionStorage) — a random id grouping the page views/searches in one browser tab together, so we can tell how long a visit lasted. Only ever created if you’ve chosen “Accept all” — see section 5 — and cleared automatically when you close the tab.

5Optional: first-party usage analytics

With your consent (“Accept all” on the banner), we collect basic first-party usage analytics — which pages you view, what you search for, which filters you use, and whether you use the bulk CSV order import or camera tyre-scan features. This is:
  • tied to your account only while you’re signed in;
  • never shared with advertisers, ad networks, or any other third party;
  • used only to understand and improve how the site is used; and
  • off entirely if you choose “Reject non-essential”.

6Managing your choice

You can change your mind at any time — this doesn’t only get asked once.

You can also block or delete cookies entirely through your browser’s own settings, though doing so for the strictly-necessary cookies above will sign you out and reset your language/theme preference on this site.
